Winslow Arizona on Route 66 (Part 1)

The corner (taking it easy)
Winslow, Arizona is well known from the Eagles song "Take It Easy" which has the line "I was standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona".  They have really leaned in to that publicity and tied it in to Route 66.  There's a lot to see here so I'm splitting it into two posts, this will cover some of the newer or more well known spots and the second post will cover the relics and abandoned places.

This is by far the most well known and popular spots in Winslow. I don't think this corner was empty the whole time I was there.  On the right side you can see a "flat-bed Ford" parked at the side of the road, and in the intersection is a huge "Arizona US 66" shield.  Yup, this has been designated "the corner" from the song.

La Posada hotel
La Posada Hotel is a former Harvey House and also the site of the Amtrak station. It is well worth walking around it if you are in town.

Delta Motel

Delta Motel has been around a long time (built in 1962), and though the sign and paint colors have changed, it otherwise looks pretty much like it always has.  It is on the western edge of Winslow on old Route 66.

Motel 10
Motel 10 has been around for over 50 years.  I went to their website and they say that they are only accepting reservations for extended stays, not overnights, but they are still open.

You are here

A wall painted with various cities and the distance to them. Los Angles (523 Miles), Winslow (you are here!), Oklahoma City (806 miles), and Chicago (1,602 miles). This is at La Posada hotel.

Sipp Shoppe in the bank building
They have more than ice cream and sodas, I ordered a sandwich and sat at a table by the window watching the Take It Easy corner, which is just across the street..

Santa Fe Railway exhibit

There is a small park with several railroad cars on a railway siding. You can walk right up to them (but unlike the Hotel California, you can always leave but you can never go in).

Brown Mug Cafe
Here's an old time cafe that is still open and advertising Mexican and American food.

The World's Smallest Church
This is billed as the worlds smallest church. It is in the Skylark Courtyard with a few other small buildings.
