Seligman, Arizona on Route 66

Supai Motel at night

Seligman, AZ is a popular tourist destination on Route 66. The main street has many hotels, restaurants, and gift shops.  It is right off the interstate (exit 121 or 123, either works) so it is worth stopping there to look around even if you aren't doing the full 66 experience.

I first drovet through Seligman when I was going east. It was night so I didn't stay long, but I did take this picture of the neon sign at Supai Motel.  There three motel signs in this picture, The Postcard Motel is right beside the Supai, and then after that the blue vertical sign is for the Canyon Lodge motel.

Old bucket truck

All sorts of interesting things are to be found.  I saw this old Ford cherry-picker bucket truck at a former gas station at the edge of town.

Route 66 RoadRunner Cafe and bus (G. Edward Johnson CC-By Attribution 4.0)

The Route 66 Roadrunner, Cafe, Art, and Gifts.  In front is parked a 1955 Geyhound bus. This isn't a prop or something the store uses to drum up business, someone is driving Route 66 in it. I saw it the day before in Holbrook (which, spoiler alert, is as far east as I went on this trip).

Road Runner Cafe and car
Parked beside the RoadRunner Cafe is one of the many old cars you find on Route 66. This one is painted for the "Lemon Cab Company". the phone number is "Beechwood 45789", In the old days, the first two digits of a phone number were given a name, Beechwood would be B E, or 2 3. So the phone number would have been 234-5789.  But this probably isn't the cab companies phone number, it is probably referencing the song "Beechwood 4-5789" sung by the Marvelettes.

Aztec Motel

One of the well known hotels on the main road is the Aztec Motel. The front of it has "Mother Road 66" painted on it and has fake sunflowers in a planter. Under the sign is a VW bug painted in Red, White, Blue, and Black. like many motels of the time, the motel makes a U around the parking lot.

Stagecoach Motel
This googie-style sign is for the Stagecoach Motel. This motel is just east of the town, so if you come in from the west, you might think you've seen everything and turn around and miss it. It was once known as the "Bill Mar Den Motel."

Abandoned Gulf station
This abandoned gas station is across the street from the Stagecoach Motel.  The big pole once would have had the sign on it and there are two gas pumps out front. Someone is clearly keeping this painted, so it must not be totally abandoned.  It used to be a Gulf Oil station and has three service bays.

Cottage Hotel

An interesting thing about Seligman is that there is stuff to see on other roads besides the main street.  This wooden building, with peeling paint, was once the Cottage Hotel.  It has been moved from its original location and is owned by the Seligman Historical Society.

Blue US Marshal house

I'm not sure how to best describe this, so I'll stick to the obvious.  This house has a hand-made sign on the front that has the words "U.S. Marshal" on a star.  Kind of odd, so I thought I'd share it.
